Part 1 (one) of the book's publication is needed for several reasons. First, it is a brief guide to historical sites that many Marshall Countians/Mississippians know little about. Part 1 also highlights sites that are usually not mentioned in conventional guide books relating to Marshall County.Although this guide supplements, it does not replace those pamphlets, brochures, etc. that call attention to more familiar tourists' areas.
Secondly, Part 2 (two) is intended to supply brief sketches of major events and figures in Holly Springs and Marshall County's history that are not often included in major publications. Part 2 especially emphasizes features about the historical Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum.
Objectives:
1) To focus on information that surrounds the life of Ida B. Wells.
2) To develop a traveling exhibit to take the "museum" to the community, to some of the schools, and to the community centers of Northwest Mississippi: the counties of Marshall, Benton, Lafayette, Tate and Desoto.
3) To continue exhibition of the African-American Heritage Fest that began in 1997 at the Eddie L. Smith Multi-Purpose Building during "Black History Month"; and to honor African-American scientists. At the author's request, the book is being sold at the same price as most distributors.
